Barbadillo Manzanilla Sherry "Solear"

Barbadillo Manzanilla Sherry “Solear”

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • “Solear” is Sherry’s original iconic Manzanilla and one of the most revered wines Barbadillo produces.
  • The name Manzanilla is inseparably linked to that of Sanlucar de Barrameda, the coastal town sitting at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River which forms one of the vertexes of the Sherry triangle.
  • It is only possible to age Manzanilla in bodegas that happen to be situated in this beautiful town, as the flor in Sanlucar’s air is unusually thick, protecting the wine from oxygen for what results in the lightest, most gossamer example of wine in the world.

Varietal Composition: 100% Palomino Fina

Elaboration:  A Manzanilla with one of the longest ageing periods on the market. Its years under the velo de flor (a particular film of yeasts) afford this sherry a range of incredible characteristics. These wines are obtained from palomino grape must, produce of low pressure, non-aggressive pressing and a complete fermentation process. The consequent fortification to 15% by volume facilitates biological ageing, a process which must be carried out in its entirety in bodegas located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Tasting Notes: Pale almost clear color with attractive highlights. Extraordinarily dry on the palate but with a smooth and harmonious finish. Full bodied, zesty, nutty, and salty

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Founded in 1821, Barbadillo is without question Sanlucar de Barrameda’s most iconic producer of Sherry.  The thing we appreciate most about Barbadillo is that they’ve remained staunchly committed to tradition in the face of continued growth – Base wines are all still fermented in house through the company’s network of sixteen historic bodegas and the variety and depth of their soleras is breathtaking.  With the Sherry category seeing more excitement than ever before in history, Barbadillo is delivering big time, with a panoply of single vineyard and heirloom releases. From their groundbreaking ‘Solear’ Manzanilla to their almost impossible to procure ‘Reliquia’ series and everything in between, tasting through the Barbadillo lineup is an inspirational and energizing experience.
