Champagne Lombard Grand Cru Brut Nature Mesnil sur Oger

Champagne Lombard Grand Cru Brut Nature Mesnil sur Oger

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Champagne Lombard is a small family owned Champagne estate located in Epernay, just north of the prestigious Cotes des Blancs.
  • The grapes for this Champagne goes through a rigorous selection process of 15 cuvees allowing them to offer the best Champagne crus.

Varietal Composition:  100% Chardonnay

Elaboration:  Soil, climate, topography, and viticulture are the four factors that define terroir and at Champagne Lombard they strive to reveal the terroir in each wine they produce.

Vinification takes place in 80 stainless steel vats, and each Cru is vinified separately. Low-temperature fermentation is used to add finesse to the wines. The wine is aged in traditional cellars, including one that was dug in the eighteenth century. Long periods of aging produce Champagnes that are aromatically intense. Barrel aging takes six to eight months.

Tasting Notes: Here is one of a series of Champagnes from three major Chardonnay villages in the Côte des Blancs. Le Mesnil has some of the top Champagne vineyards and this wine shows the quality of the terroir with its tight minerality and intense acidity balanced by the ripe lemon and grapefruit flavors. Drink now.” ~ Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

The Lombard Estate, situated in the heart of Epernay in Champagne was started in 1925 by Robert Andrieu. This family-owned Champagne house has sourced grapes from one of the finest villages in the Côte des Blancs.  By the 60’s, under the direction of Philippe Lombard, the business had grown remarkably. In the 80’s, Thierry Lombard, grandson of Philippe Lombard took over the reins, is still keeping up with the family values.
