Gerard Fiou Sancerre Blanc

Domaine Gerard Fiou Sancerre Blanc

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • A Sancerre of this quality comes from old Sauvignon vines (over 60 years old!) planted on the famous flinted hills of St-Satur, covering the eastern side of the Sancerre appellation.

Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Elaboration: Vinified in thermo regulated stainless steel tanks, this wine, maturing on its fine lees, is regularly stirred for more than 6 months

Tasting Notes: Overflowing aromas of flints and spices. Powerful in fruit and in body evokes the Sauvignon flower and the sap of the vines. With a superb balance, a delicate and harmonious expression, all of its elegance grows on the finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Domaine Gerard Fiou is a nine hectare family estate which was created several generations ago by Gerard Fiou’s ancestors.  Fiou serves as an important piece of our Loire portfolio, as the estate sits on the famous flinted hills of St-Satur in the eastern portion of the Sancerre appellation – Only a small percentage of terroir in Sancerre is made up of this soil type, which is much more common in neighboring Pouilly-Fume.  This, combined with unusually old vines, means memorable Sancerre with deep minerality.
