Greenstone Point Pinot Noir

Greenstone Point Pinot Noir

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • As one of the original members of New Zealand’s Sustainable Winegrowing Programme, the Sherwoods are committed to the improvement of their sustainable wine production and environmental management practices.
  • They make their own compost from organic vineyard and winery waste. They use biological controls for pest and disease management. Soil and disease management through the use of inter-row crops.
  •  The fruit for this wine was selected from various sites throughout the Waipara Valley, New Zealand. The mix of soil types, from Limestone-derived clay and stony former river beds gives the wine great dept of flavor and a light, early-drinking appeal.

Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

Elaboration: Following harvest the fruit underwent a 3-day cold soak period in open top fermenters before yeast was added to initiate ferment. The cap was plunged daily. After 21 days on skins the wine was gently pressed before malolactic fermentation, followed by four months of oak maturation. The wine was then blended prior to filtering and bottling.

Tasting Notes: A cooler-spectrum Pinot Noir with bright, cherry fruit and herb notes on a zesty palate. Aromas of raspberries, plum, floral and spice. Green coffee beans, leathery notes and cedar wood hint to oak complexities. The palate is juicy and rounded with bright acidity and drying finish.
