Klassen Wines Barbera

Klassen Wines Barbera

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • The wines coming out of the Sierra Foothills are representative of some of the finest wine values in California.
  • From a historical perspective, as the oldest growing region in California, to its current position as home to some of the most exciting winemakers in the state, the Sierra Foothills is a good place to watch.

Varietal Composition: 100% Barbera

Elaboration: Klassen Barbera is from the region of California that has been making a name for itself with this grape. Amador County seems to have just the right amount of heat and the correct soils to make a dark, tarry and impactful Barbera.

Grapes from the Rancho Victoria Vineyard outside of Plymouth, California, are harvested at night and delivered to our custom crush facility in Murphys, California. The fruit is crushed and de-stemmed and then allowed to cold soak for 24 hours. After inoculation, the wine ferments in bins being punched down four times per day. It is then transferred into old French oak where the last two degrees of alcohol are fermented through. The wine is aged in barrel for 24 months and in bottle for a further 12 months.

Tasting Notes: The Klassen Barbera exhibits juicy strawberries and sour cherries and fills the mouth with tons of weight. The Klassen Barbera shows bright purple and red hues in the glass.  The wine is clear and bright and not opaque.  Hints of ripe pie cherries on the nose with some darker fruit notes as well.  On the palate the wine is rich and concentrated.
