Monmousseau Brut Etoile Blanc

Monmousseau Brut Etoile Blanc

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • For decades we’ve called Monmousseau’s Brut Etoile the best value in Loire Valley bubbles, and as of 2018 we are happy to represent this wine as a West Coast importer.

Varietal Composition: 70% Chenin Blanc, 20%, Ugni Blanc, 10% random indigenous Loire varietals.

Elaboration: This wine was made according to the Méthode Traditionnelle process in their underground cellars. During the bottle fermentation (secondary fermentation) and its maturation, it was kept lying down on laths for some 12 to 18 months (the minimum legal time is 9 months) and at an ideal natural temperature of 12° C

Tasting Notes: Light golden color. Small long-lasting bubbles. Full and frothy on the front palate, with almond, fig and pear flavors, with a soft integrated finish.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Monmousseau is without question the Loire Valley’s most famous producer of sparkling wines. The winery was founded in 1886 with extensive vineyard holdings above ground and 15 kilometers of underground tunnels for fermentation and aging below them. Cremant de Touraine is something of a house specialty, as the were originally responsible for the creation of the Cremant de Touraine category. We are proudly working with a broad array of sparkling wines from Monmousseau, along with still examples of Vouvray and Cabernet Franc.
