Monmousseau Cuvee J.M.

Monmousseau Cuvee J.M.

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Monmousseau’s own Justin Marcel is responsible for the “official” creation of the sparkling Touraine category and this remains the benchmark example of its kind.

Varietal Composition: 80% Chenin Blanc – 20% Chardonnay

Elaboration: The Cuvée JM wine is elaborated according to the Méthode Traditionnelle process. It is kept lying down on laths in our underground caves, at a natural constant temperature of 12°C for 24 to 36 months. The quality and elegance of this cuvée are mainly due to this long period of maturation which follows the bottle fermentation (secondary fermentation).

Tasting Notes: This pale yellow wine is bright and translucent. Its abundant and subtle bubbles are extremely fine and long-lasting in the flute.Typical of the Chenin Blanc grape, the Cuvée JM wine is aromatic and nicely fruity. It is the successful blend of a definite liveliness due to the slight acidity of this grape variety and its fruity aromas. A wonderful balance in mouth…

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

Monmousseau is without question the Loire Valley’s most famous producer of sparkling wines. The winery was founded in 1886 with extensive vineyard holdings above ground and 15 kilometers of underground tunnels for fermentation and aging below them. Cremant de Touraine is something of a house specialty, as the were originally responsible for the creation of the Cremant de Touraine category. We are proudly working with a broad array of sparkling wines from Monmousseau, along with still examples of Vouvray and Cabernet Franc.
