Vignerons de Saumur Bois de la Tour Haut Poitou

Vignerons de Saumur Haut Poitou Sauvignon

WHY WE LOVE IT

  • Set in the heart of the Poitou at the edge of the Southern Loire Valley.
  • The vineyards are situated in two different areas, on clayey jurassic soil. The vines average 30 years old

Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Elaboration: The Sauvignon is carefully pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery. First of all part of the grapes undergoes a fermentation for a few hours at a low temperature in order to emphasize the aromas. The alcoholic fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled tanks at 65 to 68°F in order to preserve the aromas. 54 to 57°F there after and the wine is racked and kept on its lees for 1-2 months.

Tasting Notes: Pale yellow with green tints. Intense and typical, fresh fruit, blackcurrant beads and grapefruit.

PRODUCER BACKGROUND

In 1957, around forty winegrowers grouped together to establish this impressive cooperative set no the top of a hill in the village of Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg.  Their Saumur Blanc “Les Pouches” has become an important staple for us here at Grape, and their various single vineyard Cabernet Franc driven cuvees are nothing short of astonishing for the price.
